A Day in the Life

My days are pretty boring compared to some, if you ask me.

I like to think I am a "fly by the whim of the day" kinda person.  If the sun is out and hasn't been for a few weeks, we will take the day off and enjoy it.  We don't have snow days, we have sun days.  I love "play dates".  Not only are they a great way to socialize but another excuse to take the day off.  Don't get me wrong, I love homeschooling but I also love my friends and fun.  And the important thing here is to find balance in play and work.

I am a neat freak and can't stand clutter or even small messes.  All I can think about is cleaning up the mess.  So sadly, most of my day, most days is spent cleaning.  I'm not sure why I'm like that.  Scott doesn't require it and growing up, my mom wasn't that way.  I guess it's just how I'm wired.  It's easier now that the boys are older, their stuff doesn't take up as much space.

We have school Monday-Thursday and Co-op on Friday.  I don't school on Friday because I don't feel like I can get everything done before we leave and I like for it all to be done so when I get home I can enjoy my husband.  Since Brody is older he does most of school on his own with very little help from me.  Tyler has already graduated so all I really school is Seth.  He loves school so it is pretty easy.  The other two didn't really like school so much.  But I think I am a better teacher now than I was when they were younger.  It took a lot of prayer but I don't yell anymore or expect them to be rocket scientist.  When the pressure is gone from me then it is taken off my boys.  Anyway, school could take anywhere from 1 hour to 2 1/2 hours.  It just depends on the day and the mood.  If I don't have Seth's full attention, there is no need to cover heavy material.

I do "visit" a lot with my older boys when they are home.  And sometimes their friends come over and I will visit with them.  They have been coming around long enough that they are considered family.

I don't try to do everything, every day anymore.  It's just too hard and with that kind of pressure on yourself, you are miserable.  I guess my days are pretty laid back and enjoyable for the most part.

  1. I love how flexible you are! I will need you to remind me to have "sun days" and "playdates" when I start to feel overwhelmed!!

  2. We have the same thing with "sun" days vs. snow days. And we also are doing school this week while Marion co is off.

That's the beauty of homeschooling, have a flex schedule that meets the demands of your family.
