I'm Not Going to Hell Because I Buy White Bread

I am learning the difference between condemnation and conviction in this particular area in my life.  You know the one where every one buys organic food, grinds their own wheat, bakes their own bread from scratch, hangs their clothes on the line, makes their own...everything.  Maybe I'm the only one who struggles here but I am going to get on my soap box for a minute anyway.  I am tired of feeling condemnation because I don't do those things.  I still buy white bread because my kids like it and they are the ones who eat most of the bread.  I dry my clothes in the dryer because I don't want to hang them out.  I don't like the way they feel when air dried.  I still fix chicken nuggets and french fries for dinner some nights and eat a bowl of ice cream right before bed.  I tried making my own laundry soap and even my own dishwasher liquid.  I didn't like it.  Not because it took time to make but just because I didn't like the way it worked.  My whole point to myself is this:  It's okay.  The world is not going to end because of these choices and I'm not going hell because of it either.  I am not convicted to do these things and if you aren't either then just stop and allow yourself to be you.  There's nothing wrong with you or the way you run house.  If it works then don't fix it.  Don't waste money on things just because someone made you feel like it was"thus saith the Lord".  If you're not sure then look it up yourself.  Don't rely on someone else's teaching.

Okay, now that I have that off my chest...

Can't wait for the kitchen swap we are having Monday.  I have so much stuff to get rid of and it is so freeing to have an organized kitchen.  I found things that I forgot I even had.

Have a great week!

  1. Thank you so much for this. I know I put way too much pressure on myself to do those things. I especially felt that way with breastfeeding. In theory its the best but it just didn't work for me. I still feel embarrassed sometimes when I get the bottle out. I know its my own insecurities though. I want to be the person that does all of those things you mentioned but I'm not and I need to be okay with that!

  2. Yeah! What works for one, doesn't necessarily work for all. I use the clothesline, because I'm a cheapskate who doesn't want to heat up the house with the dryer. I buy Tide, because I like the way it smells and it doesn't make me itch. Great post and great reminder!

  3. I agree, although I would love to hang out my clothes I don't have a clothesline and will not be getting one anytime soon. I only make my own laundry detergent because I have a child with allergies and making my own saves me from having to buy and use two different ones; she can use the homemade. I do make my own bread and grind the wheat but only when I can. Its been a month since I did mainly because our air is out and I am SO not heating up my oven! We have been buying white bread like crazy! lol Being a single mom also I need to be realistic (as should all of us) God understands! You HAVE to do what is right for YOUR family. Thanks Trac!

  4. Yay Tracey, sorry I am so late commenting, I didn't know you posted. Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways, acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths. The Word doesn't say anything about others directing our paths unless it lines up with the Word and what God has told us personally what to do!

  5. Tracey, you are hilarious! I love the title of this post. I wonder how many hits your blog will get because people are doing a google search on "hell."

I know it is easy to feel condemned by others, and for me, it is often my own thoughts about things that others are doing, thinking that I SHOULD be doing (whatever) that get to me, not so much what others are actually saying to me. I fight legalism and I'm my own worst enemy.
